Possible Expansion of Rotary Amphitheatre

The Fresno City Council is considering expanding a popular city park to make room for bigger shows and bigger crowds.This is "Rumble in the Park 2" The second mixed martial arts contest held at the Rotary Amphitheatre in Woodward Park.

Tuesday Councilmember's will also consider a quarter-million dollar plan to expand the theater to add another 700 seats.

That's an increase of about 30-percent bringing the total number of seats to four-thousand.

Even with the expansion Mayor-Elect Ashley Swearengin thinks mixed martial arts fight don't belong at the amphitheater.

Fresno Mayor-Elect Ashley Swearengin said, "I just think it's a conflict with the intent of the park. Our uses need to be in alignment with what the intents of those facilities are."

The city council will also consider tightening the rules about what can and can't be brought into the park.
