Early Saturday morning Cornerstone Church in Downtown Fresno was turned into a magical toy land for children. These donated toys will likely be the only gift most of these kids will receive this holiday.
Pastor Jim Franklin said many parents here are faced with paying the electric bill over buying their child a toy.
Marine coordinators said donations came in slowly this year because of the economic recession.
The scene was similar in Madera County but the situation was different. The Toys for Tots program here had over 52-hundred toys for families who registered ahead of time for Saturday's event but hundreds of unregistered families showed up too.
The families who did not register in Madera were turned away. There is still time to donate gifts or money to Toys for Tots and help out a deserving kid.
