Officers said Hernandez reached for a gun. Officers fired hitting Hernandez and his 19-year-old girlfriend Gabrielle Rodriguez.
Their family members were shocked saying they were just celebrating new years when it all unfolded.
Police said Hernandez has an extensive criminal history. Both victims are expected to make a full recovery.
