Valley Man Claims Cabo Wabo Owes $40k

Fresno, CA, USA Cabo Wabo closed at the end of 2008 when rocker Sammy Hagar ended his licensing agreement with the club. The head of Creative Security Solutions claims Owner/Developer Milt Barbis still owes him about 40-thousand dollars.

With a fresh new paint job Cabo Wabo has been re-born and re-opened as the Memphis Blues Barrel Room. The big guitar's the only reminder of Cabo Wabo. But Bryan Sande feels owner Milt Barbis has been stringing him along financially since the club first opened in late August.

"We were told there was a little financial distress."

Bryan Sande said, "And from then it was basically chasing money. We would receive a check, the funds wouldn't be available."

Sande says he and his 22 white polo-shirt wearing employees were paid sporadically for event staffing and security but they kept working - hoping the financial troubles would work themselves out.

"There was a lot of jumping through hoops just to get paid."

Efforts to contact Milt Barbis at his Northwest Fresno office were unsuccessful and our phone calls were not returned. According to Sande ... Barbis questioned the number of hours actually worked by security and said he did not authorize all of the work performed. Sande says he is prepared to take legal action to get the money he claims he is owed.

"I honestly think we need to put this project in a business checkmate. If he can't provide the past vendors the funds and monies owed to them."

Sande says the Granite Park trickle-down effect has now put his company in jeopardy. Some of his employees have threatened to go to the Labor Board because they haven't been paid in full.
