Behind the Scenes | Final Day

January 15, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST
On the final day of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition build the entire site was buzzing with excitement. Most of the activity at the house took place on the inside. Volunteers unloaded several trucks of furniture. Some of the items include flat screen televisions, household furniture, kitchen appliances and decorations for the home. De Young properties turned over the keys to the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team at 2:30 in the afternoon during a ceremonial event that took place inside the house.

There were even some last minute changes still going on well into the night. We talked with the lead plumber on the project who earlier in the day made a last minute faucet switch. That forced one plumber to drive to Stockton and back to pick up the new faucet. As of 6:30 Wednesday night crews had been waiting for hours to finish the faucet installation.

Outside of the home, teams finished painting the trim, adding shutters, and light fixtures to the outside of the home. One thing designers say may change is the color of the home. Jerry De Young with De Young properties says he wants to wait to see how the finished home looks and to see if Mary Ann Riojas likes the new color. He says if she does not, his team will repaint the house in a few weeks after the Extreme Makeover Home Edition crew is finished shooting the reality show.
