It happens to all of us at one time or another - we get involved in cooking or baking, and suddenly we notice we're out of an ingredient. There?s no need to panic because we can usually substitute something else we have on hand, and save the day - and here are some common substitutes:
Mr. Food comes to the rescue with some easy substitutions for common ingredients, that will avoid a last minute trip to the market! In these days when conserving gas is a priority - these helpful hints are lifesavers!
Ingredients
1 cup self-rising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup light brown sugar
1 ounce semisweet chocolate
1 cup buttermilk
Substitutes
1 cup all-purpose flour + 1½ teaspoons baking powder + ½ teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda + ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon molasses
1 ounce unsweetened chocolate + 1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon white vinegar or 1 tablespoon lemon juice
