Peace Fresno Demonstration

Fresno, CA, USA A group of protestors gathered for an inauguration day demonstration at the Federal Building in Downtown Fresno. They asked the new president to issue an executive order to close Guantanamo Bay and ban torture on his first day in office.

"I mean, it's just something he could sit down at his desk and it's done. It doesn't take any act of Congress or anybody else. He says he needs the people to stand behind him, and this is standing behind him, saying we want you to do it, we want you to do it now," said Peace Fresno President Philip Traynor.

The new president is expected to move quickly on the international front, ordering military leaders to prepare for a speedy withdrawal from Iraq, and begin shutting down the detention center at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba.

Aides said working for peace in the Middle East will also be a top priority.
