Jury Duty ID Theft Scam

Fresno, CA, USA "Another band of thugs have figured out how to go ahead and scam the identity of good citizens through a new way," said Mark Pazin with the Merced County Sheriff's office.

Sheriff Mark Pazin said scam artists are calling people claiming to be jury coordinators. They tell the potential victim that they missed jury duty and must give their social security number in order to reschedule. They also threaten to issue an arrest warrant if the person does not comply.

But authorities said you should never give personal information to someone who calls and asks for it. They also want to remind people jury summons are mailed out and can be confirmed by contacting your local courthouse.
