The CHP said a drunk driver was going the wrong way in the southbound lanes and hit a jeep with three people inside.
One of the passengers inside the jeep died. The other two were taken to a hospital with major injuries.
The wrong-way driver was not seriously hurt. He's now in the hospital and under police custody.
