Before coasting to the finish line, Leipheimer and the rest of the riders had to conquer Palomar Mountain, a tough climb of more than 5,000 feet. Luxemourg's Frank Schleck won the 97 mile stage in just over three hours and 48 minutes, but Sunday was all about Leipheimer.
Surrounded at all times by his Astana teammates, Leipheimer never lost contact with anyone who was a threat to his lead. He crossed the finish 40 seconds behind Schleck and kept his 36-second lead over David Zabriskie of team Garmin-Slipstream.
After Sunday's tough ride a humble Leipheimer thanked his teammates, especially a Dominant Lance Armstrong.
Here's your official final standings: Leipheimer blazed through the Tour of California in almost 3.51 hours. David Zabrisikie finished second and MICHAEL ROGERS finished 45 seconds behind Rogers in third place.
