Labor Department releases New Jobless Numbers

The report confirms what many Americans feared; the unemployment rate rose in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

California reported the largest number of job cuts with nearly 80,000 pink slips in January alone. That was followed by Michigan with just over 60,000 job losses. For the newly unemployed; desperate times are calling for desperate measures.

"We had to sell our house. File for bankruptcy," said Juliet Giamartino.

"You gotta be humble. If you are embarrassed by this then you're just not willing to do what it takes," said Dustin Waite.

Wednesday's statistics are based on January unemployment levels. In February, the jobless levels got worse, so the new figures actually lag behind current unemployment rates.
