The good will has officially opened in Madera, five years after its original Madera store shut down.
David miller with Goodwill, said, "Yesterday was just wonderful, it was our grand opening. We did about 7,000 dollars worth of business, which is fantastic. The place was just packed and full, and this morning when we opened the doors, just again, a line of folks waiting to come in."
Mary Dunn is one of those customers.
She says the goodwill will no doubt thrive, especially during these economic times. "You know you're not paying an arm and a leg for something and you can get the minimum amount of wear out of it and it makes a difference, it really does."
It's not just newer stores finding success; older stores are doing the same. Plato's Closet has been in Northeast Fresno for two years and since last year, business has gone up about thirty percent.
Store employee Tracy Segura said, "We've been really busy. Sales have been going in, increasing up. We've been making our monthly goal usually pretty good. Our buys as in clothes coming in have been doing really good. We've increased in that as well."
But, it hasn't always been that way for second-hand stores.
In November of last year, the Salvation Army in Hanford shut down because of increased costs and fewer donations.
An example some say won't affect their longetivity this time around. "If you look at our denim here or other types of pieces it's a lot less than you would find anywhere else and that's how people are able to save some money and we're able to assist the community in that savings as well as providing 14 jobs here for the local community."
The Goodwill says they don't put out all of their donations, only the highest quality ones, which is why they think they'll stick around.
As for Plato's closet, they say there are just as many people buying used clothes as they are selling them.
