Fresno Restaurant Shooting Arrest

Fresno, USA Corina Hernandez and her family have owned these 2 stores for about 7 years without so much as an argument there.

She told Action News she was trapped in her back office when the suspect walked in, shut the door behind him, and demanded money.

Hernandez showed us how Cauro Sanchez held the gun to her head and said, "When someone holds a gun to your head like this -- they plan to kill you."

But she says the bullet that hit her left temple came just 2 millimeters of doing just that.

The oldest of her 4 sons was at school at U.C. Davis when his father called him. Gerardo said, "Just drop whatever you have and get home as soon as possible."

He didn't think his mom would still be alive when he got to Fresno. "It's just scary that's how close my life came to being turned around."

Corina not only survived the shooting, she recovered so quickly that doctors let her go home just 3 days later. But her home would not be the refuge she so desperately needed.

Nightmares consumed her night after night. When she finally left the house for a hospital visit she kept thinking that any minute someone would pull out a gun and shoot her again. Those irrational thoughts are why the 41 year old said she plans to go back to work in two weeks. She wants to overcome that fear and get back to the work and the customers she looks forward to seeing every day.

Corina said she feels better every day and unless there is a complication she won't need any surgeries in the future.

Fresno Police said the suspect had been in Fresno for 6 months visiting a girlfriend and that a regular customer at Corina's, who is an acquaintance of his helped track him down in New Jersey.

Detectives will head there this week to bring Sanchez back to Fresno.
