Guilty Verdict in Hit and Run Boating Trial

Fresno, CA This verdict ends a nearly three year ordeal for Roger Guzman and the McEntire family. Guzman is now sitting in jail waiting to be sentenced next month. The victim's family said they are very happy with the jury's decision.

Guzman showed no emotion as he was convicted of felony hit and run. On Labor Day 2006 ... 11 year old Dallen McEntire was knee boarding on Shaver Lake when a boat hit him. The collision left McEntire with life threatening injuries. Guzman was convicted of driving that boat and failing to stop after the incident.

Jurors deliberated nearly a full day before returning a guilty verdict. We spoke with Dallen's father over the phone. Jeff McEntire said this has been very difficult on their family.

A judge remanded Guzman into custody because of the serious allegations and Guzman has a prior DUI conviction. He now faces up to three years in prison.

The McEntire family will have a chance to address Roger Guzman when he is sentenced next month. Guzman's defense attorney expects the judge to likely sentence Guzman to more time in custody.
