Grandson of Clovis Mayor Arrested on Marijuana Charges

Clovis, CA Armstrong has served on Clovis' City Council for 4 decades. Recently he became mayor for the fifth time. Politics may be old hat for this 78 year old but having police search his home looking for drugs is out of his realm.

Clovis Police Spokeswoman Janet Stoll-Lee said "They found packaging material, weighing material; they also found immature marijuana plants in the back yard in individual containers." Investigators said the pot belonged to Armstrong's grandson David Armstrong who had been living with him for about a year. Officers pulled the 24 year old over Wednesday after getting a tip and found marijuana in his car.

Police then asked Mayor Armstrong if they could search his home and back yard. Tucked away in a corner is where officers found the small marijuana plants. Armstrong said, "It's poorly maintained and he took advantage of the cover. I felt that I had been violated trust had been broken. It's very disappointing, it's heartbreaking." The Mayor said his grandson David has apologized but he is no longer welcome in his home. "It's very hard for me. I think the world of our community and hopefully the community will support me."

Stoll-Lee said "We've got a gentleman who's been a city leader in his 70's and you have a 24 year old grandson who's participating in these kinds of activities, it's an unfortunate situation."

Mayor Armstrong said he has heard from several people in the Valley offering their support. David Armstrong was arrested and charged with 2 felony drug charges and one misdemeanor. He was released on a $20,000 bond.
