LA County in $3M settlement of hospital death case

LOS ANGELES (AP) Attorney Franklin Casco Jr., who represented Edith Rodriguez's three grown children, said Thursday each child was awarded $1 million, less legal fees.

Rodriguez died in May 2007 after going to the troubled Martin Luther King-Harbor Hospital. She had been seen at the hospital several times during the month before and despite yelling in pain was not seen by medical staff.

She died of a perforated bowel shortly after she was arrested inside the hospital on an outstanding warrant on a parole violation.

Casco says the lawsuit against the county was dismissed Monday.
