Officials said with the increase in their staffing they will be able to cover more fire-prone areas.
The firefighters though are just happy to have a job.
"Our seasonal firefighters are brought back in three different platoons, and what a day with the potential for fires out there," said Captian Nick Schuler with San Diego Cal-Fire.
"To be laid off and come back, it feels good. Definitely feels good to have more stable income," said Patrick Carrol with San Diego Cal Fire.
San Diego and the rest of Southern California has been the site of the state's biggest wildfires in the past couple of years.
Cal Fire in Fresno County increased their staffing at their Coalinga fire station on Monday.
