About 100 firefighters from Los Angeles City, County and Ventura County are fighting the flames.
A huge fireball and smoke could be seen shooting out of the home's roof. Firefighters say the flames ignited in a garage, which then spread to the three-story home.
It is not yet known what caused the fire.
