Body found in Fresno County

Fresno, CA A body floated to the surface of a Fresno County canal Sunday, but investigators think he may have come from somewhere else.

Workers on the canal found the body at Barstow and Westlawn, just outside of Northwest Fresno.

Sheriff's deputies and Fresno Firefighters got on a ladder truck and pulled the man out of the water, after that, they checked for clues about how he got there. They said he'd been in the water for a while, but it's hard to tell how long, and it's possible the body floated a long way in the fast-moving water.

Sergeant Mark Bray with Fresno County Sheriff's Office said, "With the network of canals being the way they are, we've had victims of drowning in Fresno go in the water and end up in the County."

Investigators are now checking reports of vehicle accidents and missing persons to see if they can figure out who the victim is.

Coroners will determine how he died.
