Cal State approves 10-percent hike in student fees

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Despite objections from students, the CSU Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved the fee hike to help offset state budget cuts to higher education. CSU fees have more than doubled since 2002.

Annual systemwide fees will rise to $3,354 for undergraduates, $3,894 for teacher-credential students and $4,134 for graduate students. The board also approved a new fee for MBA programs.

The fee hike is expected to generate an additional $127 million in revenue, with about one-third set aside for financial aid.

The CSU fee increase follows the University of California's decision last week to approve a 9.3-percent fee increase.
