Fresno Firefighters Remove 800lb Man's Body

Fresno, CA Members of the Fresno Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team took more than two hours to remove the body of a 51 year old man from an upstairs hotel room Tuesday night. They estimate the man weighed more than 800 pounds and neighbors said he hadn't been seen standing in more than a month.

Firefighters say the man apparently died of natural causes sometime Tuesday. To get him out of his room, firefighters had to knock down a wall and then slide the man's body into the hallway. They then used a makeshift pulley system to get him down the stairs. At least a dozen firefighters were then seen lifting the man into a coroner's van.

Neighbors said the man used two canes to get around, but he hadn't been seen out of his room in more than a month. They said they had been doing what they could to help him with his daily needs.
