Diamond Dogs Headed to Irvine California

Fresno, CA The Diamond Dogs learned this morning they'll be headed south to Irvine, California, for Friday's NCAA Regional. This after winning the WAC Tournament yesterday in Hawaii in dramatic fashion.

That was KMJ's Paul Loeffler and Ray O'Canto with the call. Clovis West product Jordan Ribera earned WAC Tournament MVP honors for his clutch performance, and now the Bulldogs move forward in their quest for back-to-back College World Series championships.

And like last year, it won't be easy. The double-elimination Irvine Regional is arguably the toughest in the country, with ACC Tournament champions Virginia taking on San Diego State. The Aztecs feature the probable first overall pick in next month's draft, pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

That game will be followed by the Diamond Dogs taking on the host Anteaters. UC Irvine is ranked number one in the national polls, but only earned the number six seed overall in the NCAA Tournament.

The entire regional will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
