"Ultimately it's how the student-athletes perform," said Boeh. "On the field and quite frankly across the gamut. The classroom and out in the community. It's the student athletes that earn these awards on our behalf, and we're very fortunate that our student athletes have done that for us."
Boeh says the honor is representative of the university as a whole. But he concedes it might also bring more challenges on the athletic field.
"I think most of our coaches will tell you when they get into competitions that Fresno State and the reputation it brings has some folks turn it up a notch a bit," said Boeh.
Not that the coaches mind at all. Baseball coach Mike Batesole says being the best in the WAC helps him recruit the best players out there.
"We're one of the last college towns left in the west," said Batesole. "To sell that whole program of the football department, the basketball department, and the baseball department all as one show is very good for our recruiting."
Good for recruiting, and even better for the fans who watch them win.
