2009 Chicano Alumni Legacy Builder

Fresno, CA Ernesto Martinez was recently named the 2009 Chicano Alumni Legacy Builder.

Martinez is a founding faculty member of La Raza Studies, now known as Chicano/Latin American Studies.

Saturday, former students also honored him for his legacy in starting Mexican folkloric dance groups back in 1966.

Ernesto Martinez, CSUF Professor Emeritus of Chicano Studies said, "It makes me feel very nostalgic. I think I want to come back to teaching again after seeing them, but it's really an honor to be given this presentation."

Martinez started his first Mexican folkloric dance group at Selma High School, which became one of the first high schools in the state to offer that type of dance as part of the official High School curriculum.
