Are You Ready for DTV?

Fresno, CA -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DTV FAQ's (and general information) - DTV Information and News

"They're gonna see blank, they're going to see no picture so that's why we have these information booths throughout the area so that they can get help before June 12th."

The Federal Communications Commission has a free information booth set up at Sierra Vista mall in Clovis. They're teaching people, like Tina Sanchez of Sanger how to be d-t-v- ready. "The tv that I have is ready, but the kids, it's not ready."

If you have satellite or cable, you'll be ready for the switch. If you're still using rabbit ears, you'll need to buy a converter box. "Just the basic, I mean this is basically all you need."

Target in River Park still has them in stock. They're selling for 45 dollars, but with a 40-dollar government issued coupon, it will cost you 5 bucks. "I think it's just to go ahead and move them straight out and make it easier on the people who need them."

Buying a converter box is not the only way to be d-t-v ready. Comcast cable is hoping to attract new Fresno subscribers by offering basic cable for just ten dollars a month. "Fresno has a pretty high percentage of households that are not ready for the dtv transition. So we put this together for that, for the community so there will be a smooth transition with dtv."

10 dollars will get you less than 40 channels, it will also cost you 25 dollars to hook up. And after 12 months, your bill will climb to 18 dollars a month.

A better alternative say some people who are rushing to get ready for the switch. "So, I decided to come down here and put my own cable on pay the fee for you know having it put on because it's more convenient for me."
