Gorman barricade ends; suspect wounded

GORMAN, Calif. A SWAT team and hostage negotiator spent hours outside the motel, located on the 49700 block of Gorman Post Road.

Hours into the standoff, after failing to talk the man out of the room, SWAT officers sent gas into it. They still heard nothing, and then finally went into the room. They found the suspect lying on the bed.

The suspect was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept.

Earlier Thursday, a California Highway Patrol officer ran a check of the license plate of a car parked outside the motel around 7 a.m. The query came back with an outstanding murder warrant out of Kansas, dated June 8.

Police say the officer then confirmed with management at the motel that the suspect named on the warrant was registered.

The officer requested help from the sheriff's department. After SWAT and other law enforcement personnel arrived, they ordered the suspect to exit the room, but he refused. He had been barricaded in the room since about noon.

The suspect is wanted for allegedly killing a woman in Kansas.

It was unknown if the man was armed.
