DTV FAQ's and General Information

For those of you who don't have cable or satellite service, and rely on an antenna for your signal, that means you'll need a converter box.

There is help available to help you make a smooth transition so there's little interruption to your favorite programming.

ABC 30 will switch over to a digital signal today at noon. So, if you still receive your TV signal with an antenna, you'll need a converter box to continue watching TV after the switch at noon today.

You can get these converter boxes at stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, and Radio Shack. The cost starts at around $45 but the federal government is providing coupons for $40 dollars off.

If you already have a converter box you will need the remote control that came with it and you will have to re-scan it after the switch at noon.

Some important things to know:

- You will lose your signal for a short time after the switch and that is when you have to re-scan.

- If you have cable, you do not need a converter box and do not have to re-scan. The digital switch for you will happen automatically.

- If you have satellite, you may have to re-scan if you receive your local stations through an antenna. Call your satellite provider for details.

If you think you need more help with this digital TV transition, you can also attend a free clinic at the Fresno Catholic Diocese today from 9 am to 4 pm. There will be experts available. The address is 1550 N. Fresno Street in Fresno. The clinic will also be open with experts available Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4pm.
