Lots of people will be out in the sun today as they celebrate the fourth of July. But we all know too much sun exposure can be bad for your skin. Now a pill is offering an added layer of protectionIt's called heliocare. The company that makes the pill calls it an herbal supplement rich in antioxidants that can prevent skin damage.

Some doctors are prescribing it to patients who spend a lot of time in the sun. And they say they are seeing a difference.

Dr. Angela bowers, Dermatologist said, "A lot of my patients who have taken heliocare have told us about instances where they'll have a day where they have forgotten to take it out at the golf course and then the next day they'll take it and notice a definite difference in the amount of redness that they get."

Doctors say heliocare does not replace sunscreen. It should just be seen as an added layer of protection. And it can be a pricey one long term, each pill costs about a dollar.
