Maximum Enforcement Period Starts Friday Night

Fresno, CA The "Maximum Enforcement" period starts at 6:00 Friday Night and runs through midnight on Sunday.

During that time, C.H.P., Police and Sheriff's departments will be out looking for drivers who are speeding, driving under the influence and not wearing seatbelts.

Scott Howland with California Highway Patrol, said "Typically out of a holiday weekend, 50 percent of the people we lose on our highways are not buckled up. That simple step of fastening your seat belt can equal saving a life. The difference between walking away from a car, and being carried away from that car."

July first was also the one year anniversary of the hand-free cell phone law. The C.H.P. has already issued more than 100,000 tickets to people talking on their cell phones while driving.
