Worker killed in boiling chocolate I.D.'d

CAMDEN, N.J. - July 8, 2009 The worker has been identified as Vincent Smith, Jr., 29.

The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. at Lyons and Sons in the 700 block of 36th Street. Police say Smith was walking on top of the vat when he fell through an opening.

The vat was filled with boiling chocolate that was in the process of being mixed.

Investigators say the man was caught up in the machinery mixing the chocolate. By the time his co-workers heard his screams and got to the vat, it was too late.

Action News encountered some of the workers in the parking lot, covered in chocolate and seemingly in dismay.

The name of the man killed has not yet been released.

OSHA inspectors are on the scene and have shut the plant down for the day.
