Michael Jackson Memorial Cost

California News Los Angeles officials say the city spent nearly $1,500,000 dollars to provide security, traffic control and other services related to the memorial service.

The police department says more than 4,000 officers worked to secure the Staples Center, Forest Lawn Cemetery, and other areas that attracted fans and the media.

AEG Live, the owner of the Staples Center, organized and promoted the memorial for Jackson but has not committed any money to help with the costs.

The City of Los Angeles has set up a web site urging fans to make tax-deductible donations to help defray costs.

So far, $17,000 dollars has been donated.

The city says its website received so many hits that the servers crashed Tuesday night and several times Wednewsday.
