Fresno Police Officer fired two shots at armed suspect

Fresno, CA It all started Tuesday morning at McKinley near Highway 99.

A witness says the 25-year old suspect was stopped on railroad tracks at a red light -- when an officer driving the other way, spotted him, and tried to pull him over.

That led to a police chase. The suspect then crashed his car into a Toyota Prius near the southbound Highway 99 on-ramp. Investigators say the man jumped out of his car, leaving his pregnant passenger inside.

Lt. Tony Bennink with the Fresno Police Department said, "The suspect turns and points a handgun at him. The officer sees the handgun and at that point fires the round at the suspect."

Police say the suspect continued to run away from officers ... and an officer fired again. By the time police found him, the suspect no longer had the gun.

Police have not yet identified the man and they are still searching for the weapon.
