While they waited the crowd shouted the name of Kush L.A., a new magazine that printed certificates to publicize the pot giveaway.
"The Obama administration has come out with the as long as it is legal in the city or the state, that they are going to let it be. As it should be. Would you rather someone do this ... marijuana, or get drunk and drive their car?" said Ron Dennis, Editor, Kush L.A. Magazine.
Security guards kept the crowds orderly until it was their turn to go inside. Customers sniffed the weed and asked questions of volunteers like Jason M. who manned the counters.
"We are giving away a 100 free eighths today, so they will all be gone in the next hour or two," said Jason.
Under California law, it is legal to smoke marijuana as long as it is under the care of a doctor. From dislocated hips, to joint problems to chronic neck pain, each person in line claimed some sort of affliction.
RCC says it plans more giveaways this summer. The store did supply an ATM just in case customers wanted to buy a little extra.
Many who were in line for the giveaway were happy that medical marijuana use is out in the open. However, they wonder why California lawmakers don't see medical use as a way out of a deep recession.
On the other side of the argument, many people think legalization of marijuana would be a disaster and think medical marijuana dispensaries provide people a way around the law.
