And he's not taking the flag down, until he returns home.
But the flag has turned quite a few heads in the East Central Fresno neighborhood.
One neighbor even dropped off a new flag at Haro's door, Haros said he never thought the flag would deteriorate so quickly, but a promise is a promise.
Louis Haros, Proud Father said, "I don't see it see it being disrespectful to the flag, I see it as keeping to a promise to a son that you love and made a promise to."
Haros is a veteran himself, and said several neighbors but not all understand his decision.
He's expecting his son to return home this week, and he said he's going to give Paul the homecoming he never got, coming home from the Vietnam War.
