Major wildfire burns in Santa Cruz Co.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA Evacuations are underway right now in the Swanton Road area of Santa Cruz County. A Red Cross emergency evacuation center has been set up in the town of Davenport.

Flames could be seen from Mt. Tamalpais, which is at a distance of about 100 miles.

The fire started around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night in the area of Scott Creek Canyon, just west of the Lockheed Martin facility.

It has burned at least 1,000 acres, but is rapidly spreading. Winds are roughly five to 10 miles per hour at this hour.

The reverse 911 system as been activated to alert roughly 300 residents.
