'49er Fire' 70 Percent Contained

AUBURN, CA The so-called "49 fire" is burning northeast of the state capital. It destroyed sixty structures over the weekend, mostly homes.

In one neighborhood in Auburn ... at least fifty homes burned to the ground. An elderly woman who couldn't escape her burning house was nearly killed, but made it out alive.

Governor Schwarzenegger toured the devastation first hand ... assuring fire victims throughout California, the state will do everything it can to help them through these tragedies.

"It's sad when you see that. When you see everything with nothing left destroyed. My heart goes out to those people," said Schwarzenegger.

This fire has burned 340 acres and is 70 percent contained. It's called the "49 fire" because it started near Highway 49 in Placer County.
