Golfers enjoying the three-day weekend on the greens are also helping soldiers' families. Many P.G.A. recognized golf courses around the nation, including Copper River, hosted Patriot Golf Day.

During the event, golfers are asked to donate money to go toward scholarships for families of fallen soldiers. It started three years ago, but this is the first year Copper River is participating.

"It was originally started by a P.G.A. professional named Dan Rooney who is also an F16 pilot, and he saw a lot of soldier's families suffering because of losses. So he put this together to help those families that have had some losses," said Todd Wilson with the Copper River Country Club.

In the last two years, the event has collected $3 million dollars. The event continues through Monday and several other golf courses in town are participating, including Sunnyside, Riverside, Fig Garden, and Fort Washington.
