Rain can make driving tricky, but when you add alcohol into the mix, it becomes downright dangerous.

It happened just after one o'clock this morning in Northeast Fresno.

Police say the 22-year-old driver left a nightclub and when he came to Millbrook and Olympic, he sped through the intersection, hit a fire hydrant, went through a brick wall, over the swimming pool, and crashed into the side of a house.

Police said the driver missed the bedroom of the homeowner's three-year-old son by about 4 feet.

The S.U.V. hit the wall of the living room and kitchen area, sending furniture and cabinets flying off the wall. "Coupled with the weather and D.U.I., it's a bad recipe for accidents like this, and luckily no one was hurt," said Mark Salazar with the Fresno Police Department.

The Urban Search and Rescue team from Fresno fire came out to assess the damage to the house and put in supporting beams before the car was pulled out. This was a precaution, since the car hit a load-bearing wall, and they feared that side of the house might have collapsed otherwise.

Gas had to be turned off the home and police say the house will be uninhabitable for at least a couple of days

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence. The homeowner, his wife and three children were all uninjured.
