Judge Denies Firefighters Attempt to Halt Furloughs

The firefighters have been told they must take 84 furlough hours by June 30th. The union said the furloughs violate a state mandate because the city failed to negotiate a new contract in good faith before instituting the furloughs.

But the judge said under California law, the city has the authority to make decisions regarding the compensation of their employees. Another hearing is set for January 13th.
