Thursday the suspect Brian Hillis told Action News exclusively quote: "I regret my actions. I feel the County of Fresno deserves better. It's been a real heartbreaking experience for me. I feel horrible."

Brian Hillis was under the influence of two prescription drugs when police say he wrecked his patrol car into a median.

Hillis says he has just gotten out of rehab and has resigned from his job. ABC30 Legal Analyst Tony Capozzi says the biggest loss has been his law enforcement career.

"The major source of punishment in this case was losing his job. i think he understood that if he didn't resign, he was going to ultimately lose his job," said Capozzi.

Although Hillis was driving on a suspended license at the time, he will not face charges for that. His license was revoked for failing to pay child support.

He will be arraigned next week.
