When officers arrived, they say a male suspect fired at them with an assault rifle from the front yard. He ran from the scene, and the officers chased him and opened fire at the King and A St. location.
Police say it's rare to see this type of scene in Tulare. "It's unusual for any location to have a subject with an assault rifle, to be shot at, yes," Sgt. Richard House said.
No officers were injured in the shooting. The suspect was taken to the hospital, but his condition has not been released. The Tulare County District Attorney's Office is now investigating the incident.
