Tulare Police say they spotted Heath Parnell inside city limits, but he opened fire on them when he realized he was being followed.

Tulare Police lost him after he started going the wrong way on major roads, but Kings County Deputies picked up the chase on a big farm along Grangeville Boulevard. They say Parnell ditched a car, which may be stolen, and he broke into an SUV parked at the farm.

Deputies say Parnell drove through corn fields and along dirt canal roads trying to lose police. He eventually got stuck in dirt and weeds. Deputies say they shot him when he came out of the SUV holding a gun. Parnell is being treated for two gunshot wounds.

He'll face charges of attempted murder on a peace officer when he gets out of the hospital.
