SoCal Homes in Walnut threatened by brush fire

WALNUT, Calif. The fire burned approximately 5 acres.

Homes in the area were initially threatened by flames, but firefighters gained the upper hand in the neighborhood, and an L.A. County Fire spokesperson said at 6:15 p.m. no homes were threatened.

Firefighters staged a command post at Grand Ave. and Shadow Mountain Rd.

Sheriff's deputies were assisting the fire department to close streets so fire engines have full access.

The fire was driven by 15- to 20-mph winds out of the southeast. The fire was not contained by firefighters.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. The fire reportedly began at about 5:28 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
