Merced police officers say 25-year-old Isaiah Coronado of Merced tried to steal a shotgun from one of their patrol cars at around 4 a.m. Sunday morning. The car was parked just outside the Merced Police Station.
But Coronado ended up alerting police to his crime in progress. Officers say he accidently turned on the car's lights and siren while trying to get the gun from a locked rack.
Coronado faces several charges including vehicle burglary and a violation of parole.
