It happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday night on Meadows Avenue near West Olive Avenue in Merced.
Merced Police say the young man appeared to have been sitting on the walk-way in front of an apartment while talking with friends before he was shot. Investigators say the suspect walked up behind the victim and yelled a gang name before he started shooting.
The victim was transported to a Modesto hospital where he later died. Merced Police are still looking for the suspect.
