Fresno employee perks to be made public

FRESNO, Calif.

The Fresno City Council passed a Labor Management Act Thursday. It will open labor agreements and financial reports of bargaining units to the public.

Under the new act, council members said they will have access to union wage and benefit information during negotiations.

Many bargaining units opposed the act, saying it could restrict their ability to negotiate.

"It's going to show wellness programs, uniform allowances," said Fresno City Councilman Lee Brand, "but the public has a right to know."

Brand said his goal was to create more transparency in Fresno city government. Information will be available on the city's website and at the City Clerk's Office.
