Disney to open Hawaii resort in 2011

FRESNO, Calif.

The Walt Disney Company is providing its first peek of its sprawling, beachside Hawaiian resort, which is under construction and scheduled to open next year.

"Aulani" is Disney's first major stand-alone resort away from a theme park. It sits on 21 acres on Oahu's leeward coast. When completed, it will have 359 hotel rooms, plus restaurants, a convention center, a spa and a massive water play area that includes a volcano tube slide and snorkel lagoon.

Aulani is scheduled to open in August 2011 with hotel reservations to begin next month.

Disney is the parent company of abc30.
