De Angelo's Italian restaurant is located at Main and K Street in Downtown Merced.

Investigators blame faulty wiring in an outlet for more than $400 thousand in damage to the restaurant. Employees gathered outside De Angelo's Monday morning shocked about what happened over the weekend. The owner says insurance should cover the loss, but he hopes it helps his employees with lost wages.

This is the second time in a week restaurant workers in Merced have suddenly lost their jobs. 37 workers showed up at Cool Hand Luke's last Wednesday to discover they'd lost their jobs. The CEO of the company says the location shut down because of the economy.
