Investigators said a 16-year-old ran a stop sign and collided with a jeep ... causing it to flip over. All three people inside the jeep were injured.
Investigators say after the crash ... the 16-year-old driver and three of his friends who were in his car ran from the scene.
They then jumped into someone else's car to try and get away. Fortunately, a pair of good samaritans saw this whole scene unfold and called police to report their whereabouts.
The driver of that jeep was airlifted to a hospital. His two passengers were taken by ambulance.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old was taken into custody for felony hit and run ... as well as suspicion of drunk driving. The car he was driving is registered to his father.
As for his friends in the car ... when we last talked to the CHP they said they were still trying to track them down.
