San Bruno fire may affect PG&E customers

FRESNO, Calif.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports, the measure was introduced last year. It would allow utility companies to charge customers for costs that exceed insurance coverage.

The California Public Utilities Commission can overrule any rate increase designed to recover disaster losses.

PG&E has close to a billion dollars in fire insurance. At this point, it's not clear if costs from the San Bruno explosion will be passed onto customers.
